What is a Commercial EPC?
A Commercial Energy Performance Certificate assesses the energy efficiency of a property using a rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). It includes a detailed description of the building, the asset rating, date of issue, and a recommendations report highlighting measures to improve efficiency. Completed EPCs are registered with the government and can be accessed via postcode or UPRN.
Who Needs a Commercial EPC?
EPCs are required by law whenever a commercial property is built, sold, or rented. Landlords must now ensure rented properties meet at least an E rating, with penalties for non-compliance. Future targets will raise minimum standards to C by 2027 and B by 2030. Certain buildings, such as small detached structures, temporary buildings, places of worship, and low-energy industrial units, may qualify for exemptions.
