Jamie Best

Director & Founder

Jamie is a Partner and Director at Melin Consultants and, alongside his wife Mel, founded the company in 2006. With 32 years industry experience he has seen sustainability move from the fringe of the built environment to becoming a key requirement of modern construction. Aware of the growing sustainability performance gap between client early aspiration and project delivery he demonstrates a realistic commercial awareness in managing what is required to bring the biggest benefits to the building, the occupants, the designers, the builders and ultimately the clients.

Jamie has spent the last 13 years as BREEAM Lead Assessor for the company but can also be found at the other end of the construction process and is an accredited air tightness testing engineer and thermographer. He is also a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant (Building Design) and BREEAM AP.

Jamie successfully bridges his technical knowledge of building assessment with commercial leadership, client engagement and team development.

He particularly enjoys communicating sustainable design concepts through seminars, teaching and advisory work and can delivers CPD’s in a number of related topics.

Cycling however is Jamie’s greatest passion and most evenings he can be found either on the indoor trainer (when wet and cold outside) or on the rolling terrain of Carmarthenshire lamenting that his ever increasing training hours don’t seem to transfer equally to greater speed in his ageing years.

Having spent the last 20 years working on the home that gave Melin its name, his focus has now changed from the house to the garden where he can often be found in the warmer months frantically trying to maintain his small patch.
